About the role
Forward Deployed Engineers own the path from an important enterprise problem to a production AI system that people actually use. You will embed with customers, learn how their business works, identify where AI can create meaningful value, and build the system that captures it.
This is not a handoff role. You will write production code, make product and architecture decisions, earn the trust of technical and business leaders, and stay accountable through deployment, adoption, and measurable impact. What you learn in the field will also shape Verona’s reusable technology and delivery playbook.
What you’ll do
- Lead technical engagements end to end, from discovery and use-case selection through architecture, implementation, rollout, and expansion.
- Learn a customer’s workflows, systems, data, and operating constraints deeply enough to identify the highest-value intervention.
- Build and integrate production applications, data pipelines, evaluation infrastructure, and guardrails inside the customer’s environment.
- Work alongside end users to test assumptions, uncover failure modes, and iterate until the system changes how real work gets done.
- Define and measure technical and business success, including quality, reliability, cost, adoption, and operational impact.
- Surface recurring customer needs to Verona’s research and engineering teams, then turn them into reusable product capabilities and delivery patterns.
What we’re looking for
- Exceptional software engineering fundamentals and a record of shipping reliable production systems.
- The product judgment to turn an ambiguous workflow into a focused technical plan with clear success criteria.
- The communication range to work credibly with end users, engineers, security teams, and senior executives.
- A customer-first operating style: you listen closely, move quickly, and take responsibility for the outcome rather than the handoff.
- Comfort entering unfamiliar codebases, data environments, and organizational contexts without a prewritten playbook.
- Willingness to spend meaningful time on-site with customers and travel as engagements require.
You might excel here if
- Experience deploying LLM applications, agents, evaluation systems, or data-intensive products in production.
- Experience as a founder, early engineer, technical consultant, solutions engineer, or another role with unusually broad ownership.
- Familiarity with enterprise security, privacy, governance, and change-management constraints.
- Evidence of exceptional craft outside your formal role, such as open-source work, independent products, or unusually ambitious projects.
